Aaron (aka NEUTOKYO) is an American illustrator and artist living in Upstate New York, his nom de plume a nod to his formative years spent working and traveling in Japan. With a love for fashion and self expression through clothing, he draws people and places in bold and reimagined colour palettes. He aims to capture the defining essence of an environment or person with a fresh perspective and childlike imagination, often challenging assumptions of beauty, power, and intelligence as it relates to the Black experience in America.

I purposely like to change the colors of the things that I draw. Choosing these colors reminds me that art should be fun, it allows the inner kid in me to make bold choices without embarrassment and full of love and kindness.

I love fashion, I love how people express themselves. I am always buying fashion magazines to see the different colors, patterns, and photoshoots. It's moveable and wearable art and I will always love it.

Buildings are characters – just like people, they define a city or a neighborhood.
So to me drawing them is like drawing a portrait.

I love digital processes – I like the ability to sketch out ideas, and store them for later all in a neat little tablet. But you cannot beat the textures, grain, tactile senses explored when using crayon, paint, or other hand drawn media.
